If you have paid attention to some local media coverage of the Cheyenne Downtown Development Authority over the last year you may think our downtown area is plagued by problems and in the doldrums.
But nothing is farther from the truth. Enthusiasm and energy are words I would use to describe what I found while attending a DDA merchants meeting this week. Ideas flowed one after another at a dizzying pace as the discussion bounced around the room. These small business owners and managers want to do business with you. They want to give you lots of good reasons to come downtown, find them, and do business with them.
Customer service was also a topic of conversation, with those in attendance emphasizing how important it is to take care of the customers, clients and patients who patronize downtown businesses. The overall theme for the meeting was “let’s make it fun for people to come downtown and spend some time here.”
So, if you haven’t taken the time to check out the offerings available in downtown Cheyenne, you should. There are lots of fun and unique shops, restaurants, service busnesses, professionals, and bars in the downtown area. All they ask is that you give them a chance to earn your business and your desire to return time and time again.
Don’t let the government level politics and personality conflicts you hear about sour your perception of Cheyenne’s downtown area. Even though many attempts have been made to fill the ‘hole’and develope the Hynds Building, those very visible problems remain unsolved. But that doesn’t mean downtown Cheyenne is stagnant. Head downtown and you’ll find new businesses, new residential offerings, efforts at developing unused space, and growing long time businesses working hard together to make downtown an energized, and growing part of our community.
Indeed, it is an exciting time for our downtown area. With the positive buzz evident at DDA merchant meetings it is a certainty that the heavy lifting being done by business owners and managers in the downtown area will pay off big time for them and Cheyenne in the long run.
Spend some time exploring downtown Cheyenne and you’ll find a vibrant business community ready to serve you well.
