In need of 41 friends for new airmen

“The only way to have a friend is to be one.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

A huge first term airmen class this month created 41 new applicants to Cheyenne’s Adopt an Airman program. This program matches new airmen at Warren AFB with the good people of Cheyenne.

Do you have room for one more on your upcoming camping trip? You know you have an extra fishing pole. Next trip to the range an extra shooter might be good to challenge your aim.  Room on the couch for one more when you escape the heat with some binge watching?

Whatever your interests, we have an airman that shares them. We can match you up with someone who fits your lifestyle. All you need to do as an Adopt an Airman host is invite them to join you from time to time.

Your participation in the program gives these new airmen a place to go off base and someone in Cheyenne to relate to.

The benefit to you is in exposure to someone from a different part of the country and the culture they bring with them. You might find they can teach you new techniques and ideas in the activities you share, or new, untried recipes to expand your palate.

Being an Adopt an Airman host provides the opportunity for you and an airman to grow in many ways. It may grow into a lifelong friendship.

With 41 airmen now in the queue, we are in need of more Cheyenne hosts and host families. If there is room in your heart and home for someone new who you can both teach and learn from, please consider applying to join the program.

A simple application process will help the Adopt an Airman Committee find a good match for you.

The Adopt an Airman program is part of the Military Affairs Committee of the Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce. You can find more information and the application form on the chamber’s web site You can also get the scoop at adopt an airman wyo on facebook or by calling the Chamber of Commerce at 307-638-3388.

Take this step to be a friend and you’ll be rewarded more than you know.
