Water & Wings Gala: 6p.m. The Cheyenne Historic Preservation Board will be hosting The Water and Wings Gala at the Plains Hotel

The Cheyenne Historic Preservation Board will be hosting their first Water and Wings Gala on Friday, May 17, 2019 at 6pm, located at The Plains Hotel, 1600 Central Ave. Cheyenne, WY 82001. The evening is dedicated to raising funds to complete the second phase of the Historic Airport Fountain Restoration Project. The fountain was built in 1934 to memorialize early aviation history. The board’s goal is to restore the fountain to its former glory and be a working water fountain again. The event will feature fine dining, silent auction, entertainment provided by the Jane Robinette Quartet and special guest speakers: Elizabeth Tolin, Mrs. Wyoming 2019; Kristi Racines, Wyoming State Auditor; and Mike Kassel, Associate Director with the Old West Museum.

The Cheyenne Historic Preservation Board is also hosting its first Investing in Preservation Summit on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 8am, located at The Plains Hotel, 1600 Central Ave. Cheyenne, WY 82001. The primary objective is to foster understanding of heritage, history, and historic places; to connect the community to places associated with diverse cultures and viewpoints that are a part of our collective heritage; to involve the community in historic preservation projects and service-learning projects that make a defined difference in the historic or cultural place; to bolster local preservation and heritage tourism efforts of communities and historic sites. The event will feature light morning refreshments, speaker panels, lunch with a special mayoral historic preservation month proclamation, and a guided tour of historic Cheyenne.

Both events are expected to draw approximately 100 guests each. Tickets can be purchased through cheyenneevents.org. Costs are as follows:

Gala: $60 per person

$100 per couple (includes 2 free tickets to Investing in Preservation Summit)

Summit: $25 per person (includes lunch)

During the Summit lunch Madam Mayor Orr will read and sign a proclamation declaring May to be Historic Preservation Month for the City of Cheyenne. This aligns with the national movement that is supported by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as well as the Statewide honor signed by the governor every year since 1973. The public is invited to participate throughout the month of May in the “This Place Matters” campaign which highlights and celebrates the places that are important to people in their community – places that matter. People are encouraged to take choose a building, side, structure or object in their community and share it via social media with the #ThisPlaceMatters hashtag.
